Softball Recap: Port Clinton Drops Highest Score of Season Against Bowsher

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Port Clinton). They never let the Bowsher BlueRacers get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Redskins brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Ashton Sanchez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Olivia Emerson and Jae Mazur did most of the damage at the plate: Emerson got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Mazur got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Emerson a new career-high. Gabby Howard was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Port Clinton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.

The victory got Port Clinton back to even at 7-7. As for Bowsher, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Port Clinton will head out on the road to challenge Oak Harbor at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rockets have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Bowsher, they will face off against Rogers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The BlueRacers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
