Softball Recap: Providence Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Providence had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Charlotte Catholic on Friday. Providence blew past Charlotte Catholic 9-3. Considering the Panthers have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sophie Strugar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Riley Wisecarver was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since March 3rd. The team also got some help courtesy of Emelia Zeng, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Wisecarver wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Providence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.

Providence's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Charlotte Catholic, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Providence will host Butler at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Butler will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Charlotte Catholic, they will head out to face off against Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Charlotte Catholic surely won't give up without a fight.
