Preview: Deckerville Eagles vs. Genesee Wolves
Deckerville is 7-2 against Genesee since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Deckerville Eagles' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Genesee Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Deckerville suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Kingston, falling 62-33. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Deckerville has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Genesee had to suffer through a rough 85-51 loss at the hands of Bendle. While losing is never fun, Genesee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 698th, while Bendle is ranked 311th).
Genesee's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aiden Croak, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and seven blocks, and Conner Rouse who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 43.1% of Genesee's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Q Bannoura was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Deckerville's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-6. As for Genesee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.
Deckerville didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Genesee in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 72-68 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Deckerville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
