Baseball Recap: Poland Takes a Loss

Poland fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Freeport on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Knights have suffered since April 18th.

Alex Mains was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Poland is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-10 otherwise. Mains was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Mains wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Damon Martin, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Poland and nudges their season record down to 9-11. As for Freeport, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9-1.

Coincidentally, Poland and Freeport will both be playing Lake Region the next time they take the field. The Falcons will host the Lakers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Knights will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
