Son of LeBron James tears meniscus, likely won't compete with Sierra Canyon club team.
An unlikely California high school basketball season likely won't have
Bronny James in it. According to several sources, the highly-touted sophomore from
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) and son of LeBron James sustained a torn meniscus.
Ranked the 25th top recruit in the Class of 2023,
according to 247Sports, James injured the knee three weeks ago.
The 6-foot-2, 165-pounder came off the bench for Sierra Canyon's Southern California championship team last season. The team's attempt for a third straight state title fell short due to the coronavirus pandemic, which ended the state playoffs two days before the finals.
A paused 2020-21 season was supposed to get begin March 12, but that likely won't happen due to youth sports guidelines set by the state's health department and governor's office. While outdoor sports were largely given a reprieve
last week, indoor sports in the state still have not been cleared. Indoor basketball is in the yellow tier, while most of the state's 58 counties sit in either purple or red.
According to the
Los Angeles Daily News, James has competed for a Sierra Canyon club team, California Basketball Club, which plans to compete March 5 in Utah. James won't be ready for that, according to news reports.
