Football Recap: West Cabarrus Gets the Win

The matchup between West Cabarrus and Central Cabarrus on Friday hardly resembled the 11-8 effort from their previous meeting. The Wolverines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 victory over the Vikings. That's more bragging rights for the Wolverines, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Johnta Harrison threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Jayden Reid was his top target, picking up 92 receiving yards and one score.

When it comes to explaining why Central Cabarrus lost, don't look at Damonte James. Despite the final result, he rushed for 173 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. James is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 102 every time he's taken the field this season. Chris Ikana also deserves some recognition as he posted his first receiving yards of the season.

West Cabarrus has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.2 points over those games. As for Central Cabarrus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

West Cabarrus wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 20-10 defeat against A.L. Brown on the 30th. As for Central Cabarrus, they have also already played their next matchup, a 51-8 victory against Harding University on the 30th.
