Softball Recap: Joliet West Tigers vs. Oswego East Wolves
Joliet West had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-20 to make it seven. They fell 11-6 to the Oswego East Wolves. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Alaina Grohar led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriela Juarez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Oswego East, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.
On Oswego East's side, they let Lundin Cornelius and Allie Gatz run wild. Cornelius went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Gatz went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Cornelius has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Katie Maday, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Looking ahead, Joliet West will welcome Joliet Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Steelmen at the right time seeing as the Steelmen are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Oswego East, they will head out to square off against Neuqua Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Wildcats have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
