Hartington-Newcastle extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 4-0. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars 50-16. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-8.

Hartington-Newcastle was led to victory by Austin Sudbeck and Jason Heimes. Sudbeck rushed for 129 yards and five TDs on only nine carries, while Heimes rushed for 148 yards and one score on only 15 carries. Those five rushing touchdowns gave Sudbeck a new career-high.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Hartington-Newcastle proved: they limited Niobrara/Verdigre to a paltry 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Ashton Wakeley for the heroic effort on defense: he. Hartington-Newcastle hasn't allowed more than 7.8 yards per carry in three consecutive matchups.

Hartington-Newcastle's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Wakeley was the leader with two.

As for Niobrara/Verdigre, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. The loss continues a trend for them in their meetings with Hartington-Newcastle: they've now lost six in a row.

Although Niobrara/Verdigre took the loss, they still got scores from Cash Wickersham and Coy Wickersham.
