Gavin Swann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lee County is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Drew Stanfield, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alston Beal, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Terry Sanford had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Wolverines an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Josh Hart looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Mason Walker was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Gibson Bray was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Terry Sanford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Terry Sanford's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lee County, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lee County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Terry Sanford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
