Basketball Recap: Emanuez Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Columbus over South Columbus

West Columbus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 48-41 to the South Columbus Stallions. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 525th, while the Stallions are ranked 227th).

West Columbus' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emanuez Jones, who posted 19 points. The dominant performance gave Jones a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Garry Brown, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, West Columbus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

West Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for South Columbus, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

West Columbus didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-41 win against Lake View on the 16th. As for South Columbus, they will head out to face off against Hemingway at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
