Volleyball Recap: Monte Vista Pirates vs. Sanford Mustangs
After flying high against Del Norte last Friday, Monte Vista came back down to earth. The Pirates fell just short of the Sanford Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Monte Vista wouldn't go down easily and took Sanford into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking six-point loss. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 15-9.
Janessa Marquez paced Monte Vista's offense, picking up ten kills. Marquez got some help from Evie Hinds and her 15 assists. Reagan Futrell controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
Monte Vista's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Sanford, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season.
Monte Vista didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Middle Park on the 31st. Sanford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
