Preview: First Coast vs. Columbia

If the MaxPreps national rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Columbia. They will challenge First Coast on the road at 7:00 PM on Thursday. Columbia don't have the home-field advantage, but they do enjoy an advantage in the MaxPreps rankings.

It was all tied up at the half for Columbia and Fletcher last Friday, but Columbia stepped up in the second half. Columbia dodged a bullet, finishing off Fletcher 21-20. No one put up better numbers for Columbia than junior Jordan Smith, who brought his A game into the match. He passed for 217 yards and 3 touchdowns. If you haven't heard Smith's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in their past eight games.

As for First Coast, they had a rough outing against Lee two weeks ago, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. First Coast blew past Atlantic Coast 37-8.

Columbia took the game and then some with a 59-16 win over First Coast the last time the two teams met. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbia since the team won't have home-field advantage. Watch the game and check back on MaxPreps to see if the change in venue makes a difference.
