Tiftarea Academy is 8-2 against Valwood since September of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Valiants at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Tiftarea Academy made easy work of Brookwood and carried off an 11-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Summer Gray was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Cloe Sercer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Raelyn Owens also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Valwood got themselves on the board against Deerfield-Windsor on Tuesday, but Deerfield-Windsor never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Knights. Considering the Valiants have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Valwood let Ella Blease and Devin Williams run wild. Blease went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Williams got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Annabelle Couch was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Valwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Tiftarea Academy's record is now 8-6. As for Valwood, their record now sits at 9-7.
Tiftarea Academy couldn't quite finish off Valwood when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 8-6. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
