Recap: Tucumcari Rattlers vs. Clayton Yellowjackets
After losing to the Clayton Yellowjackets the last time they met, the Tucumcari Rattlers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Tucumcari walked away with a 44-33 victory over Clayton on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Tucumcari.
Tucumcari's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyla Lopez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caylee Benavidez, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Tucumcari's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Clayton, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tucumcari will challenge Bosque at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bosque will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Tucumcari is ranked 45th). As for Clayton, they will head out on the road to take on Raton at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Raton comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
