Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Liyah Chavira and Isabella Zaragosa Lead Madera South to Victory + How To Watch

Madera South took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Torres, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Stallions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Toros on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Stallions as they're now sitting on three straight.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (103-89) Madera South actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 6-25, 25-22, 18-25, 15-13.

Leading Madera South to victory were Isabella Zaragosa and Liyah Chavira. Zaragosa had 23 kills, eight digs, and three blocks, while Chavira had five digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Chavira a new career-high in assists (32). Another player making a difference was Monica Placido, who had 15 digs and one assist.

They weren't the only good servers: Madera South was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in six consecutive matches.

Madera South's record is now 7-21. As for Torres, the defeat snapped their winning streak at eight matches and leaves them with a 11-10 record.

Coincidentally, Madera South and Torres will both be playing Central the next time they take the court. The Stallions will head out to face the Grizzlies at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Toros will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
