Basketball Recap: Mountain View Mountain Lions vs. Fort Morgan Mustangs
The Mountain View Mountain Lions had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 64-57 win over Fort Morgan on Tuesday. With that victory, Mountain View brought their scoring average up to 50.4 points per game.
Tyson Mares-Benz went supernova for Mountain View, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carsen Kissinger, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Fort Morgan's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Velasquez, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Velasquez has scored all season. Charlie Langford was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Fort Morgan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their tenth loss (out of ten games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Mountain View's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Fort Morgan, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain View will take on the Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northridge is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season. As for Fort Morgan, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Silver Knights at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Severance is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
