Basketball Recap: Maddex Moreno's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Elk over Oxford

West Elk lost against Oxford back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The West Elk Patriots fell just short of the Oxford Wildcats by a score of 67-64. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Patriots have suffered since January 3rd.

West Elk's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddex Moreno, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 18 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Moreno's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Garett Usry, who went 7-for-15 en route to 20 points and six boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oxford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cordell Jordan, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Jordan is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kellen Green, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards.

West Elk is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9. As for Oxford, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.

West Elk has already played their next contest, a 72-44 victory against Sedan on the 17th. As for Oxford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 90-26 win against Bluestem on the 17th.
