Softball Game Preview: Mobile Christian Leopards vs. Saint James Trojans

The Mobile Christian Leopards will take on the Saint James Trojans at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mobile Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Tuesday. They put the hurt on Cottage Hill Christian Academy with a sharp 11-1 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Leopards sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Saint James made sure to put some runs up on the board against Alabama Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles an 11-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for the Trojans as they're now sitting on six straight.

The result came thanks to Emily Needham's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tatiana Shuford was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sydney Johnston, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

Saint James always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alabama Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .118.

Mobile Christian pushed their record up to 21-18-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Saint James, their victory bumped their record up to 48-7.

Everything went Mobile Christian's way against Saint James in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Mobile Christian made off with a 6-0 win. Do the Leopards have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
