It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Shelby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Holton Red Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since April 9th.
Jayna Burmeister was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Burmeister was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jordan Wolting was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jaedyn Allen, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Shelby's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Holton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
Looking ahead, Shelby will challenge Montague at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
