It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Shelby ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Holton Red Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since April 9th.

Jayna Burmeister was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Burmeister was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jordan Wolting was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jaedyn Allen, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Shelby's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Holton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Looking ahead, Shelby will challenge Montague at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.71 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Holton, they will face off against Fremont at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Packers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
