Softball Recap: Fitzgerald Takes a Loss

Fitzgerald made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Parkway Christian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Spartans fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-4 on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost eight in a row.

Lydia Yokel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Taylor McCants was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aziya Marks, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Fitzgerald now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Parkway Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5.

Coincidentally, Fitzgerald and Parkway Christian will both be playing Detroit Cristo Rey the next time they take the field. The Spartans will host the WOLVES at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Eagles will play them later in the day, at 9:00 p.m.
