Softball Game Preview: Northgate Flames vs. Quaker Valley Quakers

The Northgate Flames will challenge the Quaker Valley Quakers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northgate is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

While Northgate didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 11-7 win over New Brighton on Wednesday.

Johna Abramowicz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michaela DeFlorimonte, who scored four runs while going 2-for-4. Bayleigh Hooper was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

Northgate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Brighton only managed seven hits.

Meanwhile, Quaker Valley came up short against Keystone Oaks on Tuesday, falling 8-1. The loss continues a trend for the Quakers in their meetings with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Quaker Valley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gemma Wiegand, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Quaker Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Northgate, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Northgate suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Quaker Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Flames avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
