Basketball Recap: Parkland Comes Up Short

Parkland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were dealt a 61-24 loss at the hands of the Americas Trail Blazers. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1050th, while the Trail Blazers are ranked 471st).

Parkland's loss came despite strong showings from Anthony Allen and Diego Castillo. Allen posted seven points and four steals, while Castillo earned eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Parkland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Americas' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from CHRISTIAN BACA, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 14 points along with five assists and five steals. BACA is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of JOSH PICHARDO, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points and five steals.

Parkland's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Americas, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-10.

Parkland will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bel Air at 6:00 p.m. Bel Air has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Americas, they will head out to take on Hanks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Americas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season.
