Softball Game Preview: Carbondale Terriers vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

For the second straight game, Carbondale will face off against Mt. Vernon. The Terriers will head out to square off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carbondale is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Carbondale is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since March 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Mt. Vernon by a score of 3-1.

For Mt. Vernon's part, Danicah Tobin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Tobin has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addi McMillen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Carbondale, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-6.
