Basketball Recap: North Bend Sets Scoring Season-High Against Newport

North Bend scored the most points they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against the Newport Cubs, falling 72-48. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Cubs are ranked 47th).

Owen Bascom and Hunter Christensen certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Bascom posted 23 points, while Christensen dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Bascom is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game.

Even though they lost, North Bend was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2023.

North Bend is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4. As for Newport, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

North Bend wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-52 win against North Valley on the 17th. As for Newport, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-58 loss against Westside Christian on the 20th.
