Football Recap: JD Rotert Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Jeffersonville

Columbus East's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They took down the Jeffersonville Red Devils 27-9. That's more bragging rights for the Olympians, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbus East to victory, but perhaps none more so than JD Rotert, who rushed for 169 yards and one touchdown. Those 169 rushing yards gave Rotert a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Columbus East was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was Columbus East's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Clayton Miller was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 2.5 himself. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.6 total tackles per game.

Despite the defeat, Jeffersonville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Darien Williams rushed for 112 yards.

The victory got Columbus East back to even at 4-4. As for Jeffersonville, they dropped their record down to 3-5 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Columbus East wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 20-17 win against Bedford North Lawrence on the 17th. As for Jeffersonville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 35-21 victory against Jennings County on the 17th.
