Baseball Recap: Godwin Heights Takes a Loss

Godwin Heights extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 2-13. They came up short against the Hopkins Vikings, falling 20-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 on Tuesday.

As for Hopkins, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

For Hopkins' part, Braydon Smigiel looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Smigiel posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matchups.

On the hitting side, Kellen Ford was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had over his last eight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Trent Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Godwin Heights will face off against Ottawa Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hopkins, they will be playing at home against Comstock Park at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
