Preview: Blackford Bruins vs. Frankton Eagles
Blackford is 2-7 against Frankton since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Blackford Bruins will look to defend their home court against the Frankton Eagles at 8:00 p.m. Blackford will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Even though Blackford has not done well against Winchester Community recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Blackford secured a 64-59 W over Winchester Community. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Blackford had a senior duo take command as Ethan Morris scored 22 points along with two steals and Kian Wells scored 17 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Morris has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gage Baker, who scored 12 points along with three blocks.
Frankton posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison-Grant and snuck past 52-50. Given Frankton's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Madison-Grant is ranked 364th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Frankton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joey Wright led the charge by scoring 17 points along with three steals. Wright hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Nate Moore was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Blackford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Frankton, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
Things could have been worse for Blackford, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-45 loss to Frankton when the teams last played back in January of 2023.
