Basketball Recap: Navajo Pine Falls Despite Big Games from Mikayla Baker and Riley Dawes

After flying high against Northwest last Friday, Navajo Pine came back down to earth. The Navajo Pine Warriors took a hard 47-32 fall against the Rehoboth Christian Lynx on Tuesday. The Warriors were down 41-20 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Navajo Pine's loss came despite strong showings from Riley Dawes and Mikayla Baker. Dawes almost dropped a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals, while Baker dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards. Baker also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Navajo Pine is 2-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 4-19 otherwise.

Even though they lost, Navajo Pine smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Navajo Pine has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season. The victory made it two in a row for Rehoboth Christian and bumps their season record up to 13-14.

Navajo Pine does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rehoboth Christian, they will challenge Hozho Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
