Baseball Game Preview: Enterprise Bulldogs vs. Newton County Cougars

The Enterprise Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Newton County Cougars at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Newton County will be up against a hot Enterprise team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Enterprise blew past Kemper County 20-3 on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Garrett Neal, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Enterprise: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-11 otherwise. Brody Smith was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Enterprise always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Newton County got themselves on the board against Leake Central on Tuesday, but Leake Central never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 15-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won five in a row.

Newton County's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Enterprise, their record now sits at 8-11.

Enterprise couldn't quite get it done against Newton County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can Enterprise avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
