Basketball Recap: Northwest Victorious

On Friday, the Northwest Lions were able to grind out a solid victory over the McCluer South-Berkeley Bulldogs, taking the game 43-35.

McCluer South-Berkeley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Merkle, who posted nine points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jelani Smith, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points.

The win got Northwest back to even at 2-2. As for McCluer South-Berkeley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Northwest Lions take on the Mehlville Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McCluer South-Berkeley has already played their next game (against Collegiate Medicine & Bioscience), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
