Preview: Barrow Whalers vs. Nome-Beltz Nanooks
After two games on the road, Barrow is heading back home. They will take on the Nome-Beltz Nanooks at TBD on Friday. Barrow has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Back in January, Barrow was able to grind out a solid win over Bethel, taking the game 63-51. That's two games straight that Barrow has won by exactly 12 points.
Barrow relied on the efforts of Sasita Unutoa, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Alex Fruean, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Unutoa has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Uatahouse Tui?fua, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Nome-Beltz waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They came out on top against Valdez by a score of 50-37.
Barrow has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. As for Nome-Beltz, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3.
Things could have been worse for Barrow, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 65-50 loss to Nome-Beltz when the teams last played back in March of 2023.
