Baseball Game Preview: Goodland Cowboys vs. Ulysses Tigers

Goodland hasn't had much luck against Ulysses recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cowboys will welcome the Tigers at 3:00 p.m. Goodland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Goodland got the win against Decatur Community by a conclusive 18-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.

Kaleb Williams and Zach Thorson did most of the damage at the plate: Williams went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Thorson went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Thorson has become a key player for Goodland: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Joseph Vonlintel, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Goodland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Ulysses lost 11-4 to Lakin on Thursday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alex Hostetler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Hauser, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Goodland's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Ulysses, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
