Football Game Preview: Muhlenberg County Mustangs vs. Owensboro Red Devils + How To Watch

Muhlenberg County hasn't had much luck against Owensboro recently, but that could start to change on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m.

Muhlenberg County is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since October 4, 2024 two weeks ago. They were outmatched by Madisonville-North Hopkins and fell 56-12. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Maroons are ranked 22nd).

Meanwhile, Owensboro entered their tilt with Marshall County last Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They took their game with ease, bagging a 62-7 victory over the Marshals. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Red Devils had established a 48-point advantage.

Muhlenberg County better keep an eye on Evan Hampton. He was instrumental in Owensboro's win, rushing for 169 yards and three scores on only seven carries. Hampton's longest rush was for an incredible 92 yards. Kingston Dillard was another key player, picking up 116 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Owensboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 269 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 96.5 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 220.3.

Muhlenberg County's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Owensboro, their record now sits at 5-2.

Muhlenberg County took a serious blow against Owensboro when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 56-8. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hampton, who rushed for 138 yards and three TDs on only five carries.
