The Trinity Lutheran Cougars will square off against the Eastern Musketeers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Trinity Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Trinity Lutheran took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over Lanesville. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cougars needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Bode Brooks and Reed Roeder made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Brooks struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Roeder tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brooks has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brooks went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Roeder went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Roeder has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Trinity Lutheran let John Harris and Lincoln Huff run wild. Harris went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Huff went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Harris has posted since back in May of 2025. Wyatt Huff was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Eastern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Brownstown Central, falling 11-1.
Eastern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Odum, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Reese Lindley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Trinity Lutheran pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Eastern, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trinity Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
