Softball Game Preview: Morgan Trojans vs. Emery Spartans

The Morgan Trojans will face off against the Emery Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Morgan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.

Morgan heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Friday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grantsville. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Cowboys: they've now lost eight in a row.

Lexi Hardman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Wardell, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Emery never let their opponents score on Friday. They skirted past South Summit 2-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Not much got past Kallee Lake, who gave up just seven hits to keep South Summit off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elli Stoker, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. TaiLynn Minchey was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.

Emery's victory bumped their record up to 21-12. As for Morgan, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-7.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Morgan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Emery struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Morgan suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Emery in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
