The Moffat Cowboys just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Aguilar Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Moffat is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Sangre de Cristo just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 64-23 loss at the hands of the Thunderbirds.
Moffat's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Chase Shellabarger, who posted six points and ten boards, and Preston Heater, who earned 13 points and six rebounds. That was a full 56.5% of Moffat's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Moffat smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Aguilar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 45-32 to Manzanola.
Moffat will need focus on slowing down Matthew Gonzales, one of several Aguilar players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Gonzales is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Gomez, who put up ten points.
Aguilar's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Moffat, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Moffat has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 36.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Aguilar struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Moffat against Aguilar in their previous meeting back in February of 2018, as the squad secured a 75-21 victory. Does Moffat have another victory up their sleeve, or will Aguilar turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
