Preview: Newton-Conover Red Devils vs. Maiden Blue Devils

Newton-Conover is 1-8 against Maiden since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Newton-Conover Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Maiden Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. Newton-Conover is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Last Thursday, Newton-Conover had to suffer through a rough 48-21 loss at the hands of Bunker Hill. Newton-Conover was down 45-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite their defeat, Newton-Conover saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jordan Lineberger, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Lineberger hasn't dropped below sixsolo tackles for eight straight games.

Meanwhile, after only nine points in their last contest, Maiden made sure to put some points up on the board against Lincolnton on Friday. Maiden came out on top in a nail-biter against Lincolnton and snuck past 37-34.

Josh Stover had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 73 yards and a touchdown. Maiden also got a significant boost from Kendall Roberts, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 131 yards.

Newton-Conover has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Maiden, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Newton-Conover was dealt a bruising 47-13 defeat at the hands of Maiden when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Newton-Conover avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
