Basketball Recap: Commerce Tigers vs. Rabun County Wildcats
It was a proper cat-fight when Commerce faced off against Rabun County on Friday. The Commerce Tigers took a 68-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rabun County Wildcats. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 67-49.
Evan Peters and Ty Sorrells certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Peters went 8-for-10 en route to 16 points and six rebounds, while Sorrells went 6-for-11 on his way to 15 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Sorrells is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Tyler Hardman also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
Rabun County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hayes Free out in front who went 8-for-12 to rack up 20 points and seven boards. The matchup was Free's fifth in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Huey Blalock, who went 7-for-12 on his way to 20 points and five assists.
Commerce's loss dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Rabun County, they have been performing well recently as they've won 17 of their last 20 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.
Commerce wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-53 win against Dodge County on the 19th. As for Rabun County, they have also already played their next matchup, a 70-39 victory against Social Circle on the 19th.
