LaBrae has gone a perfect 3-0 against McDonald recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Vikings will take on the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. LaBrae is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
LaBrae is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Southeast just ended the team's 12-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 10-7 to the Pirates. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this game were averaging 3.83 runs allowed.
Riley Rowe made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Morgan Thompson also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Meanwhile, McDonald came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Bluejays by a score of 6-1.
Aubrey Evans spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kayla Helco, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Mancini, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
McDonald pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for LaBrae, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. LaBrae has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like McDonald struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
LaBrae came out on top in a nail-biter against McDonald when the teams last played on April 4th, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
