Basketball Recap: Westville Blackhawks vs. Winamac Warriors
Westville took care of business in their home opener on Thursday (and then some). They blew past the Winamac Warriors 57-35. That's more bragging rights for the Blackhawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Westville found their leader in freshman Hillary Labis, who went 10 for 23 en route to 29 points plus two steals. Andrea Benefield was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Westville was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winamac only racked up nine.
Winamac's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cyaira Wolford, who had six points.
Winamac's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Westville has already played their next matchup, a 65-28 win against Mishawaka Marian on the 9th. As for Winamac, they will welcome North Newton at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
