Softball Game Preview: Kewanee Boilermakers vs. Princeton Tigers

The Kewanee Boilermakers will challenge the Princeton Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kewanee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

Kewanee came into this matchup off a tough nine-run defeat on Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Princeton by a score of 4-2 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Boilermakers have suffered since April 12th.

For Princeton's part, Reese Reviglio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits. Reviglio has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ellie Harp was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Keely Lawson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

The win was the third in a row for Princeton, bringing their record up to 9-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kewanee, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-10.

Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kewanee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Princeton struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
