Baseball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Southern Academy's Winning Streak

Southern Academy was the 13-1 winner over Jackson Academy when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Southern Academy Cougars took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jackson Academy Eagles on Thursday. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Wyatt Martin was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Drew Rogers and BoBraeden Agee did some serious damage despite the final result: Rogers scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Agee scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Agee has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Mason Turner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Southern Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jackson Academy only managed six hits.

Southern Academy's record is now 8-5. As for Jackson Academy, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Academy will venture away from home to face off against Coosa Valley Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jackson Academy, they will challenge Southern Academy at 6:00 p.m. on March 27th.
