Softball Recap: Margaretta Drops Highest Score of Season Against Willard

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hopewell-Loudon, Margaretta was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Willard Crimson Flashes as they made off with a 17-7 victory. The Polar Bears' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Elie Grime spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Lucy Edwards was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ellaynah Schaefer, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Margaretta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win snapped Margaretta's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-4 record. As for Willard, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Margaretta will welcome Edison at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Polar Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Willard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Vermilion at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
