Softball Recap: Ely Comes Up Short

Ely extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 8-6. They came up short against the International Falls Broncos, falling 13-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Timberwolves have suffered since April 16th.

Julia Zgonc made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Lindi Zemke was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for International Falls, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

On International Falls' side, they got a massive performance out of Mara Buller, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Buller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sylvia Valenzuela, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ely will take on Mountain Iron-Buhl at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for International Falls, they will welcome Moose Lake/Willow River at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
