Voyager skates past Oxford Prep with ease

Recap: Voyager Vikings vs. Oxford Prep Griffins

The Voyager Vikings had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 72-45 blowout they got at home against Oxford Prep. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-13.

Nasir Westbrook was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Dwight Anderson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Loss or not, Oxford Prep got some senior leadership from AleYaun Heggie and Jamarri Glover. Heggie dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Glover. scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Heggie hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 11 straight games.

Oxford Prep struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Voyager now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Oxford Prep, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.

Voyager will head out on the road to square off against Excelsior Classical Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Excelsior Classical Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Oxford Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Varsity Opponent is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
