Softball Game Preview: Leopold Wildcats vs. Woodland Cardinals

The Leopold Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Woodland Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leopold is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Leopold got the win against Richland by a conclusive 24-3. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by nine runs or more this season.

Ashtyn Van De Ven and Piper Lincoln were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Van De Ven pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lincoln pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Van De Ven has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Van De Ven scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Lincoln got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run was Lincoln's first of the season.

In other batting news, Leopold got a massive performance out of Katlyn Arnzen, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Malia VanderMierden, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Leopold always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Woodland came up short against Malden on Thursday, falling 19-9.

Woodland's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Leopold, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5.

Leopold might still be hurting after the 20-1 defeat they got from Woodland in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
