Basketball Recap: Rusk Eagles vs. Palestine Wildcats

The Rusk Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight defeat. They took a 76-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Palestine. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Rusk in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost eight in a row.

Rusk's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakaiyah Jenkins, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Jenkins is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of JoHannah McDonald, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Rusk has been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-22 record this season. As for Palestine, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-21.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rusk will square off against the Hornets at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hudson is on a four-game streak of home losses, the Eagles a 14-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. As for Palestine, they will head out on the road to square off against the Fightin' Indians at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Jacksonville is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
