Preview: Northwest Catholic Lions vs. Southington Blue Knights

The Northwest Catholic Lions will be playing at home against the Southington Blue Knights at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Northwest Catholic will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.

On Saturday, it was a hard-fought match, but Northwest Catholic had to settle for a 42-40 loss against Immaculate. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Northwest Catholic has scored all season.

Southington aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Friday extended their overall winning streak to three. They slipped by Simsbury 43-42. The win was all the more spectacular given Southington's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Simsbury is ranked first).

Southington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily Cooper led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Bethany Borges, who scored seven points along with two blocks.

Northwest Catholic's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-4. As for Southington, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Northwest Catholic was able to grind out a solid win over Southington in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 51-40. Will Northwest Catholic repeat their success, or does Southington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
