Basketball Recap: Freeburg Victorious

Freeburg proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 37) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 36-33 victory over the Okawville Rockets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Midgets have posted against the Rockets since January 11, 2020.

Okawville lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Caroline Tepe, who posted eight points and four steals. Tepe has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Jilien Harre was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Freeburg has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Okawville, they moved to 6-2 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Freeburg and Okawville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Freeburg (ranked 150th) will meet Mascoutah (ranked 428th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Okawville (ranked 55th) will meet Sparta (ranked 466th) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
