Volleyball Recap: Arete Prep Takes a Loss

Arete Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Arete Prep started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-18.

Tayo Jolaogun paced Arete Prep's offense, picking up nine kills. Jolaogun got some help from Kailee Jarman and her 14 assists. Kiki Aragon and Tomi Atolagbe kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with three aces apiece.

Arete Prep's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Arete Prep has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Chandler Prep on the 22nd. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Lincoln Prep on the 20th.
